Join the seminar on Materials and Development in Metal Injection Moulding in Sandviken on 24-25 May 2023!
Metal Injection Moulding is nowadays an established technology: in Europe, its industrial application dates back to the early 1990’s and just entered it fourth decade. From the early days, much has changed, for the better. Companies can now quite safely offer superior designs, good alloy control, reasonable tolerances despite the challenge of large sintering shrinkages, and sound performance, at competitive prices. The range of achievable part weight and thickness is constantly improving, and process capability does the same. Thus, it is a mass production route, that needs yet more awareness by potential customers, but proving quite effective for the sectors that already use it.
This is obtained by reliable raw materials, equipment and procedures, yet there is still room for improvement: in efficiency (that is directly linked to sustainability) and, for instance, to overcome limitations. Furthermore, the possible synergies with the Additive Manufacturing techniques (for mould technology, for prototypes, sharing sintering facilities, and so on) are also on the table.
The seminar will cover the recent and future improvements in the technology, with some more focus on available materials in terms of powders and feedstocks but covering all steps:
The seminar will cover the recent and future improvements in the technology, with some more focus on available materials in terms of powders and feedstocks but covering all steps:
- MIM Powder production, characterisation and optimisation;
- Novel MIM feedstock, feedstock characterisation and optimisation;
- Moulding and mould technology, green parts quality monitoring and optimisation;
- Debinding technology, brown parts quality monitoring and optimisation;
- Sintering technology, sintered part quality monitoring and optimisation;
- Postsintering treatments
- Simulation, digitalisation
- Sustainability
- …and so on
Some interactive sessions will be organised, as proven successful in the latest 2020 event: Sustainability and MIM-AM synergies are possible topics, also with the target of stimulating collaborative research.
The event will be hosted in Sandviken, Sweden, at the Högbo Sandvik facility, a European leader in production of MIM and AM powders, about 150 km north of Stockholm’s Arlanda airport. A visit to the Sandvik AM centre and MIDAS & ATHENA powder production facilities will be included.
It will be a great chance to meet the MIM community, and learn about some of the newest developments. Thus, participation in person is strongly encouraged for the best experience, although remote connection will be offered.
Find all the details about this event, including a provisional programme with the speakers and titles of the presentations, access information and advice on accommodation, in the relevant seminar page on this website. Remember that the registration deadline will be on 10 May 2023!
