EPMA's Design for PM Seminar took place 27 – 28 April 2017at the Best Western Plus Tower Hotel Bologna. Over 50 delegates from across the PM supply chain were present during this 2-day seminar that featured lectures from well-known PM industry presenters.
The presentations covered a range of Powder Metallurgy topics from an introduction to PM (processes, materials and a comparison with alternative technologies), through to the mechanical behaviour of PM materials in correlation to porosity and in relation to the microstructural features of PM steels. The two main damage mechanisms of structural parts, fatigue and contact fatigue, was discussed in detail. Presentations on the guidelines imposed by the key step of the technology, i.e. by shaping, were also presented, introducing a topic on design, which featured the specific description of design for fatigue, with examples of how to design a PM gear. Three case studies were presented that highlighted real-life examples of how to design PM Gears and Shock Absorbers.
Within the programme a factory tour took place at the famous Ducati motorcycle factory, which was well received and attended by the participants.
